How can I join Energise Barnet?
Please register via the website, telephone 0208 8492 3362 or email us for details.
What property assessments do you arrange?
We can arrange a free, no-obligation assessment of your property to see what energy saving and renewable energy generating measures are feasible. Appointments are arranged at a time to suit you (including weekends).
Key information will be gathered about your property’s electricity and heating use and a review made of your property’s potential for solar PV electricity, solar thermal heating, condensing boilers, heat pumps loft, cavity or solid wall insulation and other energy saving measures.
Some photos / measurements of your property will be taken and we would need to see last year’s energy bills so that the potential for savings can be assessed and ascertain your budget and timescales
From the information obtained, we ascertain what type of renewable energy system and energy efficiency measures are appropriate and arrange for a report to be provided containing tailor-made, practical recommendations on how to reduce your energy consumption. The report also advises the costs involved, what financial incentives and /or grants may be available and provides projected returns on investment. You'll have the opportunity to discuss the findings and recommendations face to face.
What then?
Through our partners, we can arrange a Green Deal Assessment if appropriate, technical survey and advise installation costs. If you would like to go ahead, we can then arrange funding and installation through a Green Deal Provider or other organisation.
Is Energise Barnet a commercial company?
No. It is a social enterprise (community interest company limited by shares).
A Community interest company (CIC) is a limited company designed specifically for those wishing to operate for the benefit of the community rather than for the benefit of the owners of the company. This means that a CIC cannot be formed or used solely for the personal gain of a particular person, or group of people.
CICs have a statutory “Asset Lock” to prevent the assets and profits being distributed, except as permitted by legislation. This ensures the assets and profits are retained within the CIC for community purposes, or transferred to another asset-locked organisation, such as another CIC or charity.
Does Energise Barnet carry out Green Deal Assessments?
No. These are carried out by accredited Green Deal Assessors.
Our role is to help you make an informed decision. If a Green Deal Assessment is appropriate given your circumstances, we will arrange this for you.
Does Energise Barnet install renewable energy systems or energy saving measures?
No. Installation of measures is made by 'best of breed' installers appointed by our partners. These may, or may not, be Green Deal accredited.
Our role is to help you make an informed decision and obtain the best price and the best quality products and service, making the whole process as easy as possible for you.
In which areas does Energise Barnet operate?
Any area within the London Borough of Barnet and surrounding areas.
How can I get my neighbours and friends interested?
The success of Energise Barnet in improving the environmental well-being of the borough depends on getting as many residents and businesses etc as possible to implement energy saving measures and renewables. In turn, this will lead to reduction in carbon emissions.
You can help spread the word by emailing friends, neighbours and work colleagues that you think might also be interested.
If you’d like to setup a neighbourhood meeting, please contact us and we’ll make a presentation to residents. Some digital marketing material can be provided upon request.
How do you secure lower installation costs?
The bigger our buying groups, the more leverage we have to negotiate good pricing.
We agree pricing with our preferred partners. The pricing will vary depending on the type of measure and size of the installed system, but it will be discounted from the 'normal' price. You are encouraged to double check this yourself by getting bids from other installers. If you can get better elsewhere, we wil not expect you to go ahead with us!
Do I have to pay Energise Barnet to receive their service?
No. It is currently FREE to all Barnet homeowners.
How does Energise Barnet cover it's expenses?
From grant funding. We also receive a donation from partners for each installation. By introducing business to them, they can reduce their operational costs so are willing to donate monies to us.
The donation they make is agreed in advance and we will advise this to you, upon request. Our interests and yours are always aligned as we are not a commercial organisation. No money changes hands between us and members and the donation we obtain from our partners, is a fraction of the installation cost.
The donations help pay our operational costs such as salaries, marketing, home visits, travel and administration.
Who are the installers?
Installation are arranged by our partners which include energy suppliers, Green Deal Providers, renewables installers and managing agents.
Couldn’t I obtain quotes just as well myself?
We would all like to think so; however having the time and knowing where to go is difficult. Our partners know the industry and the suppliers - good and bad.
Choosing an installer is time-consuming. Should you buy through an energy supplier, retailer or approach installers direct? If the latter, which one should you select ? You will need to get quotes from several firms, who wil each want to give a site-visit before giving their final price. Through Energise Barnet this process is minimised because we have partnered with some of the best in the industry.
We also provide you with inpartial information and advice to help you save time and money and are committed to ensuring that you receive the highest levels of customer care and customer satisfaction by:
proposing the right measures for your home, installed at a competitive price by appropriately, qualified and certified installers..
leveraging economies of scale. Because our partners are able to source equipment in large quantities we can obtain competitive pricing for our members.
