SAVE ENERGY,
MAKE MONEY.

A new central heating system can save you energy and money and you may be eligible for a grant to install a new gas condensing boiler.
A new condensing boiler will convert 86% or more of its fuel into heat compared to 65% for an old G rated boiler. Fitting a condensing boiler and heating controls could reduce your fuel bills by up to £235* per year and reduce CO2 emissions by around 1.3 tonnes*
If your working boiler is G rated and over 20 years old, you may be eligible for FREE upgrade if you are in receipt of a mean-tested benefits*.

Condensing boilers
The average household with gas central heating consumes around 26,000 kWh of energy per year, of which around 83% is for heating and hot water. Replacing old, inefficient boilers can significantly cut fuel costs and CO2 emissions.
Typically, a new condensing gas boiler will have an efficiency of 88%, compared with 79% for a new non-condensing boiler, 72% for a stock average boiler, and 55-65% for older existing models. Condensing boilers are more efficient because they have a large, or sometimes duel, heat exchanger which extracts extra heat from the waste flue gases.
If faced with making a purchasing choice for a new central heating boiler based upon all the facts and possible options, the sensible choice must always be for the most energy efficient option. This will save more money than it costs and will help the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, which is something we all have a responsibility to do and it is rather absurd to waste energy.
Very simply, condensing boilers are designed to extract the maximum amount of heat generated from the fuel which is paid for to produce heating and hot water. On older boilers, over £45 can be wasted for every £100 of fuel purchased. This wasted energy is reduced to less than £15 with a condensing boiler. The design incorporates a secondary heat exchanger that usefully uses the heat normally lost through the flue. The flue temperature at the terminal of a condensing boiler is as low as 50°C, compared to as much as 300°C on a regular boiler.
Producing heating and hot water accounts for over 70% of the energy used in the home. It therefore makes sense to produce this heat as efficiently as possible. Older boilers are less efficient and can become less reliable with age. The pay-back time for the cost of replacing an existing boiler with a condensing boiler is often quoted as being over 8 years, however the pay-back for the additional cost of about £250 is in fact less than 3 years and often absolutely nothing with a grant!
Gas safety
All installers working with gas are required, by law, to be registered with GasSafe, the register of gas installers, please ensure for your own safety that any person providing a quotation for gas installations has the appropriate qualification and carries an ID card to prove this. But just remember that GasSafe registration is only for gas safety; it is not a heating qualification.

“Too often community activity can be stymied by the state. We are proposing that a new model of engagement may well see the Council provide the support the community needs to support activities such as clearing snow or tackling local environmental damage.
Innovations like Barnet Pledgebank will not make a big society overnight - but they do point to a local government that does things with residents, rather than “for “or “to” them”.
